
Childrens Swim Academy
Children’s swim lessons at Lahinch Leisure Centre’s Swim Academy are all about important learning while having fun. Our swim teachers use a leading children’s swim programme to introduce children of all ages and levels to safe swimming. Each stage is developed to ensure your child makes the correct learning milestones safely and effectively, before continuing to the next stage.
Level 1
Starfish
Training Pool
- Safe entry into the pool using steps
- Walk forwards/ backwards confidently across training pool
- Blow bubbles out of mouth / nose on water surface
- Submerge whole face into water
- Star float with a woggle/board
- Pencil float on front with a woggle/board
- Float on back with a woggle/board
- Regain standing from floating on front with support
Level 2
Seahorse
Training Pool
- Safe entry into pool (from wall) sit & swivel
- Blow bubbles out of mouth and out of nose while fully submerged underwater
- Star float front/ back
- Push and glide on front/back with a float
- Front crawl kick with board across full length of training pool
- Back crawl kick with board across full length of training pool
- Retrieve sinkers from bottom of training pool
- Roll over with board/woggle
Level 3
Turtle
Main Pool Shallow End
- Safe entry into pool (using ladder)
- Push and glide with streamline arms on front
- Push and glide on back with board
- Rotate star float front to star float back
- Mushroom float front
- Head first sculling back with woggle
- Feet first sculling back with woggle
- Push and glide underwater to retrieve sinker
Level 4
Goldfish
Main Pool Shallow End
- Safe entry into pool ladder/wall
- Star float front to mushroom float to pencil float front/back
- Correct front crawl arm action
- Correct back crawl action
- Front crawl breathing to the side
- Underwater butterfly kick
- Breaststroke kick with board
- Feet first surface dive – sit on pool floor
Level 5
Flyfish
Main Pool Middle Section
- Full front crawl no board
- Full back crawl no board
- Introduction to full breaststroke
- Tread water 20 seconds
- Surface dives feet first, head first
- Kneeling dive deep end
- Rotations while continuing full front crawl and back crawl
- Butterfly kick with streamline arms on front/back
